David Sharir – an artist of stage, wall and soul
David Sharir is one of Israel's most prominent multidisciplinary artists, whose work touches on almost every field of visual art: painting, stage design, mosaics, and artistic interpretation of literature and biblical texts. His work, which began at a young age with colored pencils and paper, has developed into a rich body of work that combines extraordinary visual talent with intellectual and emotional depth.
A journey of creation – from the stage to the international stage
Sharir was born to a Jewish-Russian family that came to Israel in the 1920s. From a young age, his talent for painting and love of the stage were evident. He grew up near the Habima Theater, and was inspired by the world of theater, while studying art and playing the piano. At the age of 20, he won first prize in a young artists' exhibition at the Tel Aviv Artists' House, and his career took off from there.
Over the years, he has worked with major theaters such as "Habima", "Hacameri" and "Haifa Theater", and with dance companies such as "Batsheva" and "Inbal". The stage designs and costumes he created for productions in Israel and abroad are still considered to this day an example of creativity, color and deep cultural interpretation.
Diverse and multidisciplinary art
Sharir was not content with stage design. He created large-scale murals and mosaics, including "The Tower of Babel" at Tel Aviv University and "Tel Aviv Jaffa Second Generation" at Shalom Tower, Tel Aviv. His works reflect a unique style that combines imagination, humor, and the ability to tell a visual story that connects the viewer to the cultural and historical background of the work.
The connection between literature and art
Over the years, Sharir has explored the connection between visual art and literary and biblical texts. He has created series of paintings based on the Book of Psalms and Hebrew literature, including the series "Yaffo Yaft Yamim" in collaboration with texts by Agnon. These works express his deep connection to Jewish culture and the artistic heritage of the Jewish people.
Creator and curator
Since 2003, Sharir has served as an artistic consultant and curator at the Shalom Tower Gallery in Tel Aviv, and continues to enrich the local art scene with diverse exhibitions and nurturing young artists.
A living legacy of art and soul
David Sharir is not just an artist; he is a visual storyteller who lives art in all its aspects. His work combines vivid colors with conceptual depth, inviting the viewer on a journey between cultures, times, and human experiences. In our gallery we are proud to present his works, which represent a rare combination of talent, vision, and enduring inspiration.
